Example: Stripping Metadata from a JPEG Image

The images in the table show that stripping metadata from a JPEG file has no impact on its quality: the two images are visually identical.

Size

By stripping the EXIF data and the thumbnail image from the JPEG file, we reduce the size to almost half the original size. This is a typical result for the quality and size of images used on the World Wide Web. The actual size reduction depends on the quantity of EXIF data, whether a colour table is included (and how long it is), and, most importantly, on the number, size and quality of embedded thumbnails.
