EvalC3 Evaluation Data Tool at MERL Tech 2017

By Mark Skipper on 09 March 2017

At MERL Tech 2017 we presented EvalC3, the evaluation multi-tool we’ve been developing with M&E expert Rick Davies.

EvalC3 is a package of data analysis tools in Excel. It helps evaluators make sense of monitoring data from international development projects. In particular it helps answer the question 'what combination of factors helped bring about the results we observed?'. A new version is nearly ready and MERL Tech 2017 was the ideal event to show it off.

Mark from Aptivate and Hur Hassnain from War Child gave the presentation, with Rick Davies dialed in via Skype from Australia. Mark talked about what EvalC3 is for, and gave a live demonstration of how it works. And Hur talked about his and Rick’s experience using it to analyse real data from a War Child project that helps children deported back to Afghanistan from Iran.

There were lots of evaluators in the audience and many were keen to become EvalC3 beta-testers. EvalC3 will be eventually be released as a free tool. For the moment Rick Davies is offering to work together with beta testers to better understand the problems of working with real data and how best to improve the tool. Want to be a beta tester? The MERL Tech day ended with a visioning workshop to come up with a vision for MERL Tech in 2020. We each made a card then had a nice interactive session where we scored the cards to find the top cards. The chosen card was Aptivate's Alan Jackson's card.
